This is the first time I am hearing the complete version again after ... I have seen Dienstag Aus Licht at Oper Leipzig in 1993. Stockhausen had his desk just a few meters in front of me.
This forms the foundation for a part of the opera, which added live instruments and singers, but it was also played as an 8 speaker installation at the foyer. Obviously that whole event was pretty exciting, which means I had little inner quiet to really enjoy it, but I was extremely impressed by this installation, and that still resonates with me today.
The whole evening was quite an experience. Never before had I head sounds this physical, dashing through the room, filling the room. And the visuals were also very captivating.
I did not understand anything about the story line or anything like that, though. I was just overwhelmed by everything I heard, saw and could grasp, but I was also overwhelmed by everything that went way over my head. Literally.
And still: wow. I so longed to hear this again. I do need to get the CD. Though this one does scream Atmos release.
I do have a 14 minute edit which once was added as a bonus to the sampler Electronic Lust Vol. 2, which does make me want to hear more. But Stockhausen's original works can only be bought from the website, no external distributor, and the prices ... postage comes on top.

And this is an interesting comment from youtube:

I produced this, unfortunately we didn't have phase offset at the time so all the drone accents have that awful phasing. And the Midi resolution of 128 steps was far too broad to accurately realize all those glissandos. Anyway, it's a nice document of what I was able to realize at the time.
